1952 Fender Princeton “TV Tweed” Amp Demo

Listen for the symphonic harmonics at the end. General opinion is that Jazz and the Blues/Early Rock and Roll sound great on tweeds, but since I can't play any of the above, here's a silly stab at it. The amp deserves better. It makes my 1976 Gibson Les Paul Custom sound like a totally different animal.

Nice I got a old Gibson Tube Amp I try to put it on Tommorrow using my New Starfire – Charles

  • Jahnli says:

    Guild Starfires, great guitars!

  • Noitpure says:

    Awesome tone!!! Sounds very nice!

    Nice Amp

  • superskwrl says:

this would sound better if you hadn’t put brand new strings on your guitar

  • Jahnli says:

The crappy onboard mic on my point and shoot camera doesn’t help either. It’s much deeper and richer in person.

  • veerustin says:

great sounding amp! what were the controls on the guitar and amp set at when you recordid this?

  • Jahnli says:

Amp – Tone at 1 o’clock, Vol at noon.

Les Paul – middle position, everything cranked.

    6sj7 or 6sl7 pre amp tube ?

  • Jahnli says:

    6SL7, love those Octals!

  • Steve0585 says:

very nice sound, and don’t be so hard on your guitar playing!

  • heusker says:

sounds really nice-mellow and crisp. how much did you pay for that if i may ask, i have no idea what they’re worth but more than blackface fenders i bet

  • Jahnli says:

Actually less than any blackfaces bigger than a vibro champ, since this is like a tweed champ. Under a thousand bucks – they make for great recording amps too!

  • davididutdacoon says:

Those ’symphonic harmonics’ sound so good. I’m glad you pointed them out. Nice :)

  • p65ls says:

it matches the table and bed too !!! lol

  • famouspogs says:

please record this thing cranked. usually i hate youtube videos recorded on cameras and shit but even through that this amp sounds amazing. i bet it sounds incredible being pushed

  • jsz1962 says:

    sweet!

  • broadcasterman767 says:

Stunning amplifier. I’m building one of these as a project at the moment, I love 40s and early 50s era fenders….or any tube amp using Octal pre-amp tubes. it’s not everyones thing….But it’s definetly mine.

Thank you for posting the only 5B2 Princeton video I can find on the web!

  • FenderAmpFreak says:

Nice amp, I like these better than the later 12a*7 pre amp models, those early tubes IMHO far outway the others in tone,
    Great clip thanks

What kind of guitar/pickups are you using here? I like the tone. I’ve got a ‘51 tv-front Pro that I love. People are just now coming around to these early tweeds. The one you’ve got here looks and sounds really nice. Great job!

  • Jahnli says:

@dallasblues74 it’s a ‘76 Les Paul Custom, probably has late T-Tops in it. Pretty clean for a Paul!

  • dallasblues74 says:

@Jahnli Wow! That is definitely cleaner than I would’ve expected from a Les Paul. Great tone!

  • MrGodam29 says:

    tasty sound

  • lighteningboy says:

@Jahnli It is very clean for a Les Paul. I bet my Telecaster would sound like glass through this thing, love it
