Can I use a guitar amp/cab for a bass guitar?

I have a vox 100W amp and 4X12 cab. I recently uprgraded to A Line 6 Spidervalve 100W with Celestion V30 4X12 cab.
I want to get into bass a little bit, and I would appreciate anybodys advice on playing a bass through the old Vox guitar amp, and any effects that it may have on the amp, or sound quality.
Or should i just go ahead and get a bass amp?
(To any smart @sses: yeah, I know that I CAN use the guitar amp, i just need a little expert advice)
Thanks!

Anyone who says you can use a guitar amp for a bass is lying. You CAN use it but it will (1) damage the amp and the speaker, possibly blowing it out and (2) it will sound awful. The speakers inside guitar amps are not made to tolerate those kind of low frequencies. Your best bet would be to go ahead and buy a bass amp.
