Looking for a good bass guitar/amp for the money.?

hi, im new to bass guitars, but i own a guitar.
Im looking for a bass because i find it easier for me and i like the sound of it alot better. Mainly because i can make riffs better on a bass and it just seems right for me.
Anyways, im looking for a good bass/amp that is good for money, but something that would be ok for a gig, because i might do something like that sometime in the near future.
so yeah, give me some good guitars and amps that have good quality, sound, exc.
Thank you.
Please only answers from bass players 3 years+ , or experts.

    Hey….

A great bass that wont put a big dent in your pocket book is the Peavey Millenium. They also make these in passive and active models. Here is a link for the passive model.

A couple of the features on this bass I really like: Quilt top, and try to find another bass in this price range that offers one. String through body bridge: Another unheard of at this price.

Ive played Peavey basses for a heck of a long time, and own 5 different models of them, including a $2600.00 Cirrus 6 string bass. They pay very close attention to detail in their lower priced models, which is why I am recommending this as a starter bass. Ive yet to see one of these Millenium basses have bad fret work, lousy fit and finish, or be unplayable. They also offer great tonal possibilities suited for MANY genres of music. And even at the price, they are a bass that can be taken to the stage!

As far as amps go, heres where it gets kinda tricky as you dont list a budget. As far as the best bang for the buck goes, A Behringer 300 watt combo amp can be had for under 300. Heres a link for one….

One thing about these amps: you will not find as many features or wattage in this price range. But as far as im concerned, thats where the appealability stops. Im not a big fan of just a single 15, and while these amps are very loud, to me, they offer only a passable sound at best. If you have over 600 to spend on a combo amp, Ashdown, Eden, Gallien Krueger, Hartke, and SWR have great sounding versatile combos out there. For someone starting out though, you cant go wrong with one of these Behringers.

As far as the Acoustic brand amp someone mentioned… ya.. they are making them again, and at best, MAYBE a touch better than the Behringer on their whole lind of amps. But at 149 for a 20 watter as opposed to under 300 for triple the wattage, this is a no brainer for someone wanting a decent first rig. Ive got some old Acoustic gear from the 70’s, such as the Acoustic 360 head with a double 15, and these new ones to me dont cut the mustard.

I would be glad to offer more help if you edit your post with your total budget.

Hope this has helped, and KEEP PLAYIN!
