There’s a LOT of choice for $1500, my friend. It depends a lot on what guitar and pedals you use, the sizes of the places you’ll play and whether you prefer to mic through the PA or go out into the room. Also, how heavy the tone you’re after is.
Much more than tube / solid state / digital is the design of the amp.
I myself love Vox amps and believe Vox has a certain sound other brands don’t get. And that “Vox tone” is there in the expensive valve AC30CCH and the inexpensive SS Pathfinder 10 more than in any other brands, regardless of components.
I’d check out these heads:
(Tube)
Bugera 333XL
Egnator Rebel 30
Vox Night Train
(SS analog)
Kustom KG100HFX
B-52 LS-100
Fender MH-500
(Digital)
Line 6 Spider IV HD150
Ibanez MIMX150H
OR:
Really the best of both worlds IMO: A Vox Tonelab ST (Modeling with a 12ax7 tube in the output stage which reconfigures to suit the amp it’s modeling) into a Power Amp (eg Marshall or Carvin, tube OR solid-state according to preference) and any cab with Celestion speakers.
I myself am biased towards Celestions, but I think that is a far bigger contribution to the tone and sound than – necessarily – whether the preamp is valve or Solid State.

I think the Marshall cabs are all good, as long as they have Celestions (the MG cabs don’t, I think) and the B-52 ST-412, Egnater Tourmaster 212X and the Kustom PRO 412 are all good for the price.
The Celestions are a personal preference. Eminence, Fane and Jensen are all good speakers too.
you’re the mad scientist
@j9o9h9n9n9y9 im thinking about getting the B-52 LS-100.Could I use the Vox lab with the B-52. Also there are some concerns with the Voxlab being that its a pedal. Is it sturdy?, Does the tube ever need replacing?

I love the VOX VT-50. Solid state with tubes.I can’t wait to get it.
@thymegadeth Hi, actually the LS-100 is a good one because it gives you a great choice. You can either plug the Tonelab into the front end and combine the Tonelab’s sound with the amp’s own sound (quite an “open” and “airy” sounding analog amp, great for putting a modeling preamp in) OR you can go straight into the Power Amp (The Effects Return Input) and use just the Tonelab’s sounds, with the Tube for ouput tone and overdrive, into pure power just to amplify.
@thymegadeth The Tonelab is metal and seems very sturdy. The valve is well protected but well-ventilated and, as it’s a 12AX7 rather than a “traditional” power tube (and is operating at a low wattage itself and not being “driven” in the same way), it should last years and years, perhaps indefinitely.
You can replace it for differences in tone, of course, and a good NOS 12AX7 can really make the Tonelab “sing”.
@j9o9h9n9n9y9 i appreiciate the help
@thymegadeth You’re very welcome, any time
This man is very smart !!!
Great Video!
i know verry less about tube amps… and i really want to know wat happens if you put a guitar effect like a boss pedal on a tube amp?
I am partial to tube amps. I got rid of my my tube amp and I still regret it.
@forplaylongtime those 90% also think that skill=speed
hey guys are there any tube amps that produce a good tone even at low volumes?
i wanna get a lamb of god kind of a metal tone… anyone?
Why is he holding a guitar?
@bamaman71492 well he probably came in one day, and shot a bunch of videos at once. So, he probably was using it at some point, and he just kept it for this video…
@bamaman71492 haha i know i was thinking the same.
i love this guys head lol
@skate4live11
What do you mean by, what happens if you put a guitar effect on a valve amp?
I think you mean will it sound different to a solid state? if so, yes but you’ll still get the same effect.
There is no amp, in my opinion that can reproduce a tube amp warmth / fatness. Also, IMHO tube amps reflect more ‘touch’ of the guitarists.. Hard to explain but seems like a solid state amp doesn’t reflect the musician’s true strike of the string.
alright so approximately how strong is a tube amp compared to a solid state. like if i say like a 20 or 40 watt tube how strong is that in means of a solid state amp’s power(in watts)
